Discover these Wineries in Pennsylvania on a Weekend Getaway

One of the best parts of getting away for a weekend is discovering what new cities and small towns nearby the major metropolitan areas have to offer. Thankfully, there’s a lovely selection of wineries in Pennsylvania for tastings, tours, live music, and beautiful outdoor seating in Mercer County! It’s the perfect location for a quick, easy drive from Pittsburgh or Cleveland and incredibly scenic in the fall as the autumnal hues sweep across the countryside.

Winemaking in Pennsylvania has a long history, dating back about 300 years when Alexander Penn brought cuttings of Bordeaux vines to cultivate the state’s first vineyard in what is now Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park. That vineyard didn’t survive; however, in the late 1960s, Presque Isle Wine Cellars and Penn Shore Vineyards obtained licenses and became the first two wineries in the state. Now, there are more than 300 wineries in Pennsylvania, making it the eighth-largest wine-producing state in the country.

One of the best ways to explore a handful of these Pennsylvania wineries is by following the Mercer County Wine, Beer, and Spirits Trail—which is even more enjoyable when you make Tara – A Country Inn, our historic hotel with bed and breakfast amenities, your homebase near Sharon, PA. You’ll be nestled in the countryside but close enough to all of the great things to do on a romantic getaway! For wine lovers, there’s also a fantastic selection of wine by the glass and the bottle at our on-site restaurant, Stonewall’s Tavern, which is a must-visit during your stay. We can’t wait to host you; book your lodging today!
