The guest experience at Tara — A Country Inn is exceptional. The combination of the property’s rich history, unique Greek Revival architecture, and an abundance of fascinating memorabilia invoke an Old South feel reminiscent of “Gone with the Wind.” Our property was originally built in 1854 by Charles Koonce, a former U.S. congressman. It’s believed Mr. Koonce helped slaves escape via the Underground Railroad, which ran directly through the backyard. Before his death, Mr. Koonce was involved in signing the Emancipation Proclamation, an act that his original obituary cited as one of the proudest moments of his life.
Though the property itself is fascinating, the rooms are even more enchanting. They reflect 19th-century extravagance but also feature modern amenities of the 21st century. Select from 27 different rooms and suites, all of which include a romantic gas-lit fireplace and jetted tub. Allow yourself to unwind by slipping into one of the plush robes provided and sip a glass of your favorite wine in the evenings.
For an extra special experience, inquire about one of our spacious suites with additional features such as a private porch area, views of the property’s garden and an in-room dining table. Browse all our accommodations to find the perfect place for you enjoy a weekend or week-long getaway.
