Meet Our Owner – Donna Winner
Donna Winner and her late husband, Jim, were both raised on dairy farms in Mercer County, Pennsylvania — humble beginnings that shaped a lifetime of determination, resilience, and entrepreneurial spirit. Jim would go on to gain international recognition as the creator of “The Club” anti-theft device, while Donna distinguished herself as the first female stockbroker in Western Pennsylvania.
Their shared appreciation for history and architecture led them into hospitality in 1979 with the purchase of the Shenango Inn. Several years later, they discovered an abandoned hilltop mansion in Clark — the last remaining structure of a town lost to the Shenango Reservoir. Recognizing its significance and potential, they undertook an ambitious restoration, opening Tara – A Country Inn in 1986.
Under Donna’s stewardship, Tara has remained a place of gracious hospitality, refined country elegance, and warm personal welcome. Her commitment to preservation and community continues through the family’s many business ventures and the enduring philanthropic work of the Winner Foundation, which supports the Shenango Valley she proudly calls home.
Meet Our General Manager – Samantha Schultz
Samantha Schultz brings over 20 years of expertise in hospitality and event management to her new role as General Manager at Tara – A Country Inn. She previously had worked with the Winner family for more than a decade, establishing herself as a trusted and dedicated leader. Samantha’s passion for exceptional guest experiences and her deep understanding of the industry make her an invaluable addition to our team. Samantha is excited to be taking the helm, saying, “I am looking forward to working with the staff of Tara and creating memorable stays and events for all past, present and future guests.”
